Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 1 slice of bread
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ tbsp butter
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Place the slice of bread on a cutting board. Use the back of a spoon to gently press down the center, creating a shallow well. This helps hold the egg in place.
  • Lightly butter the bread, including the edges, or spray it with cooking spray to prevent drying.
  • Sprinkle about half of the shredded cheese into the pressed center of the bread.
  • Crack the egg directly into the center. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the egg and around the edges.
  • Carefully place the prepared toast into the air fryer basket. Keep it flat so the egg doesn’t spill.
  • Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 6 to 8 minutes, depending on how set you like the egg:
  • 6 minutes for a softer yolk
  • 7–8 minutes for a firmer yolk
  • Remove carefully and let rest for 1 minute before serving. The egg will continue to set slightly.

Notes

  • Use thick bread. Thin slices dry out fast in the air fryer. Thick bread holds the egg and cheese better and stays crisp outside.
  • Make a shallow well in the bread center. Press gently with a spoon. This keeps the egg from spilling over the sides.
  • Add cheese after the egg partially sets. This prevents burnt cheese and gives a clean melt.
  • Check early. Air fryer models vary. Start checking 1–2 minutes before the recommended time to avoid overcooked eggs.
