Servings: 1
- 1 slice of bread
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ tbsp butter
- Salt & pepper to taste
Place the slice of bread on a cutting board. Use the back of a spoon to gently press down the center, creating a shallow well. This helps hold the egg in place.
Lightly butter the bread, including the edges, or spray it with cooking spray to prevent drying.
Sprinkle about half of the shredded cheese into the pressed center of the bread.
Crack the egg directly into the center. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the egg and around the edges.
Carefully place the prepared toast into the air fryer basket. Keep it flat so the egg doesn’t spill.
Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 6 to 8 minutes, depending on how set you like the egg:
6 minutes for a softer yolk
7–8 minutes for a firmer yolk
Remove carefully and let rest for 1 minute before serving. The egg will continue to set slightly.
- Use thick bread. Thin slices dry out fast in the air fryer. Thick bread holds the egg and cheese better and stays crisp outside.
- Make a shallow well in the bread center. Press gently with a spoon. This keeps the egg from spilling over the sides.
- Add cheese after the egg partially sets. This prevents burnt cheese and gives a clean melt.
- Check early. Air fryer models vary. Start checking 1–2 minutes before the recommended time to avoid overcooked eggs.
